WINSTON-SALEM, NC – For the second season in a row a member of the Winston-Salem State Rams baseball team has been selected in the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft as redshirt-sophomore outfielder E.P. Reese was selected in the 25th round of the 2019 draft. He was selected by the Houston Astros with the 766th pick of the draft.
Reese was selected after a terrific season at Winston-Salem State. He only played one season at WSSU and he finished the season, leading the Rams with a .408 batting average with 73 hits in 179 at-bats. He also added 10 doubles with two triples, and four home runs. He was one of the team's top offensive options with 54 runs scored and 35 RBI. He also added 26 stolen bases as well. For his efforts, Reese was a second team to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Region team.
This marks the second straight season that a WSSU baseball player has been selected in the annual MLB draft as last season, former Rams centerfielder Randy Norris was selected by the San Francisco Giants with the 556th overall pick in the 19th round.
Reese became the third WSSU player selected in the MLB draft since 1985. For more information on Rams baseball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
