CHARLOTTE, NC – Four members of the Winston-Salem State University defense were honored when the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced the 2019 CIAA All-Conference Team. Three Rams earned first team All-CIAA honors while one earned second team All-CIAA honors.
Leading the way for the honorees was the sophomore linebacker duo of Ta'Shaun Taylor and Kalen Allen. Taylor finished the 2019 season with 85 total tackles (47 solo) to rank third in the CIAA. He also had nine tackles for a loss, including three sacks with two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble, an interception and three pass breakups. Allen finished the season with 53 total tackles (35 solo), including 12 tackles for a loss. He also recorded three sacks with two pass breakups.
Joining the linebacker duo will be senior free safety Daryus Skinner. The award caps a tremendous career for Skinner and marks his second straight first team All-CIAA honor. He finished the season with seven interceptions that he returned for 158 yards and a 66-yard touchdown. He finished the season ranked second in the CIAA in total interceptions. He also had 39 total tackles (20 solo) with a forced fumble.
Winston-Salem State senior cornerback Joshua Flowers earned second team All-CIAA honors. He finished the 2019 season with four interceptions to rank sixth in the CIAA. He also added six pass breakups. Flowers finished the season with 32 total tackles (26 solo).
