WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (15-10) saw their seven-game winning streak snapped in a tough 3-0 loss to the Pfeiffer Falcons (12-17). The Lady Rams came up just short in the game that saw a pair of great pitching performances for both teams.
The two teams combined for eight total hits as the Lady Rams allowed just five hits while managing three hits. Junior third base Katrina Bartlett scored the sole extra-base hit for the Lady Rams as she was one-for-three at the plate with a double. Senior outfielder Tanaya Pettus and junior outfielder Kiah Ruffin both added singles as well.
The two teams were scoreless until the sixth inning when Pfeiffer scored a pair of sixth-inning runs and added a seventh-inning run.
WSSU freshman pitcher Chyna Riley (3-2) took the pitching loss, going all seven innings with five hits allowed and one earned run. She also allowed no walks.
The Lady Rams will return to Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play this weekend when the team heads to Raleigh, N.C. to take on the Shaw Bears in a CIAA doubleheader, Saturday. The team will return home on next Tuesday to host Bluefield State.
