PEMBROKE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (0-4) struggled against some top-notch defense in a 6-0 loss at UNC-Pembroke Braves (1-2) at the UNC-Pembroke Invitational Softball Tournament, Saturday afternoon. The Lady Rams found hits hard to come by and could not get any runs across the plate in the tough loss.
For the game, the Lady Rams managed just four hits while allowing eight hits to the Braves. Four Lady Rams each recorded a single in the loss. Senior second baseman Monet Daly, senior outfielder Kiah Ruffin, and senior thirdbaseman Katrina Bartlett each recorded singles in the loss. Bartlett added a stolen base as well.
The Lady Rams allowed two runs in the second, fifth, and sixth innings to take the loss.
WSSU sophomore Chyna Riley (0-1) took the pitching loss after going four and two-thirds innings for the Lady Rams. She allowed six hits with four earned runs. She also added a strikeout. Sophomore Katherine Zimmer added a third of an inning, allowing two hits and an earned run. Daly closed out the game with an inning pitched. She allowed no hits and no earned runs.
The Lady Rams will return to action tomorrow when the team closes out the tournament. The team will take on the Concord Mountain Lions and the Pfeiffer Falcons, tomorrow.
