MISENHEIMER, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (0-7) just couldn't get any runs across the plate in a 4-0 road loss to the Pfeiffer Falcons (7-5), Friday afternoon. The Lady Rams could not seem to get their offense in gear as the team totaled just four hits with no runs in the tough loss.
Though the Lady Rams had their share of hitting struggles, the team played some solid defense for all seven innings. All four runs allowed came in just two innings for the Lady Rams. After allowing an opening inning run to the Falcons, the Lady Rams were able to hold them scoreless for the majority of the game, but struggled with a three-run fifth inning allowed.
WSSU sophomore catcher Mercedes Hargett led the way for the Lady Rams with a pair of hits. For the game, she went two-for-three from the plate. Senior outfielder Kiah Ruffin added a one-for-three effort while sophomore pitcher Chyna Riley went one-for-two.
Riley (0-2) took the pitching loss, going four and one-third innings pitched. She allowed four runs (one earned) and added a strikeout. Hargett came in for one and two-thirds innings and finished the game with three strikeouts and no runs allowed.
The Lady Rams and Falcons would meet later in the day to close out the doubleheader. For more information on Lady Rams softball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
