WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (18-15, 7-1 CIAA) got their second win of the day in style when the team took a dominating 24-2 win over the Livingstone Blue Bears (5-13, 1-7 CIAA). The Rams took the win behind their best performance of the season when they scored a season-high 24 runs while holding the Blue Bears to just two runs.
As a team, the Rams recorded the season-high 24 runs on 21 hits in the game. Junior pitcher Chyna Riley led the way for the Rams with a five-for-five hitting performance with four runs scored and four RBI. .Freshman outfielder Jasmine Holloman added a three-for-four hitting effort with three runs scored and three RBI. Freshman outfielder Destiny Snipes added a two-for-three hitting effort with four runs scored and three RBI.
The Rams got off to a slow start in the game when Livingstone scored a pair of opening-inning runs before WSSU answered with five runs in the bottom of the first inning. From there, the Rams exploded with 12 second-inning runs, five third-inning runs and a pair of fourth-inning runs to go on top, 24-2 and sealed the victory.
Riley (6-4) took the pitching victory when she went all five innings with just two runs allowed (none earned) and three hits with just one walk. She also finished the game with nine strike outs.
With the win, the Rams improve to 18-15 overall and 7-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The doubleheader was also the team's CIAA Southern Division opener where the Rams improve to 2-0.
