ELIZABETH CITY, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-17, 1-2 CIAA) wasted little time when they took a 14-1 win over the Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings (1-17, 1-3 CIAA) on the second day of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Round Up. The Rams took the win in dominant fashion with some tremendous play on both sides of the ball.
The Rams combined a powerful offensive effort with some strong defense to claim their first win of the season. Freshman outfielder Nyla Howard led the way for the Rams, going three-for-three at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Junior Jasmine Holloman was two-for-four with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Defensively, the Rams held the Lady Vikings to just one run on just six hits.
The Rams got the game started with a hot start and never looked back. The team scored five first inning runs with six second inning runs to go ahead 11-0. The team added two third inning runs and a fourth inning run before clamping down on defense to seal the five-inning victory.
WSSU freshman Tia Robinson (1-7) took the pitching victory. She started the game and ended the day with one run allowed, one earned, on six hits with six strikeouts.
