Rams Take a 13-1 Five-Inning Win at Johnson C. Smith


CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (7-21, 5-4 CIAA) got back to their winning ways, Saturday morning when the team took a 13-1 five-inning road win over the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (6-15, 4-7 CIAA). The Rams turned in one of their best overall performances of the season with one of their best offensive performances combined with one of their top defensive performances of the season.

The Rams broke out on offense with 13 runs in the game. WSSU sophomore pitcher Erica Davis led the way for the Rams when she went three-for-four at the plate with a triple, a home run, and five RBIn in the game. Junior short stop Destiny Snipes went three-for-three with a double, a triple, two RBI, and three runs scored.

The Rams took control of the game early and never looked back. The Rams jumped out when Davis hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give the team a 3-0 lead. Junior left fielder Jasmine Holloman added a second-inning RBI single as well. It was in the fourth inning when the Rams really took things over with nine runs. The rally included a two-RBI triple from Snipes.

Davis (6-11) took the pitching win. She went all five innings with one run allowed (none earned) on six hits with two strikeouts.

With the win, the Rams improve to 7-21 overall and 5-4 in Central intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The two teams would go on to complete the doubleheader later in the day.
