CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (4-5, 4-2 CIAA) closed the weekend in style when the team took a 5-1 win over the Bowie State Bulldogs at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round Up. With the win, the Rams finished the weekend with three wins and only one loss.
The Rams opened the match with a pair of doubles wins. Sophomores Tay'lor Champion and Avion Harris combined for an 8-4 win at #2 doubles while freshman Kyra Akande and sophomore Cylah Gaither added an 8-4 win of their own at #3 doubles. From there, the Rams went into singles play with a 2-1 lead.
In singles play, the Rams needed just three wins to close out the match. The team got started with a 6-1, 6-0 win by Brown at #2 singles. Freshman Kyrsten Jenelle added a 6-1, 6-0 win at #5 singles before Harris closed the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #3 singles.
With the win, the Rams improve to 4-5 overall and 4-2 in CIAA play. The team will return to action, Thursday when the team heads to Fayetteville, N.C. to take on the Fayetteville State Broncos in a key CIAA Southern Division match.
