WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams track & field teams put on some great efforts in front of the hometown crowd at the 2014 Wake Forest Open. The team kicked off the 2014 outdoor track & field season with a bang with some great efforts both on the track and in field events.
With the Lady Rams jumpers taking center stage on the opening day of the meet, the Lady Rams sprint relay teams made the most of their time in the spotlight, Saturday. The Lady Rams' 4x100m relay team got things started when they placed fourth in the event with a 47.61. Not to be outdone, the Lady Rams' 4x400m relay team placed fifth in the event with a 3:55.51.
Individually, WSSU sophomore Raven Byrd had a great day, placing fifth in the women's high jump invitational with a 1.62m jump. The effort was made even more impressive as it was her first action since suffering an injury at the 2014 CIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Junior long jumper Tajanel McNeil had another strong day when she placed fifth in the women's long jump with a 5.57m leap. She led all NCAA Division II competitors in the event.
