WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams track & field team opened the outdoor season in style when the team notched some impressive performances on the opening day of the 2014 Wake Forest Open. The Lady Rams put on a show in the jumps while adding some impressive efforts on the track as well.
The Lady Rams kicked things off with some stellar performances in the women's triple jump. WSSU junior jumper Tajanel McNeil continued what she started during the indoor season when she won the women's triple jump with a 41'00.25" (12.50m) leap. Freshman jumper Teshlyn Smith added an impressive effort of her own, placing second in her flight with a 35'7.25" (10.85m) jump. Sophomore Raven Byrd also got in on the act, tying for fifth place in the invitational section of the women's high jump with a 5'3.75" (1.62m) leap.
The team carried their strong efforts onto the track where sophomore Jasmine Bonapart won her heat in the women's 100m hurdles preliminary with a 15.41. Junior Nya Michaux also won her heat in the women's 400m run with a 58.42.
