HIGH POINT, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams took advantage of the beautiful weather to put on some great performances at the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by the High Point University. The Lady Rams found themselves competing against some of the top teams in the nation with several teams from NCAA Division I and NCAA Division II at the nearby meet.
On the opening day of the meet, the Lady Rams distance runners to the stage against several quality teams. Junior Aquila Jones led things off for the Lady Rams with at 24th place finish in the women's 5000m run. She recorded a 20:52.02 in the event. Freshman Micalyne Zimmerman got things started in the women's 3200m run when she placed 38th with a 5:02.92 in the event.
From there, it was up to the WSSU field event athletes to represent the Lady Rams when junior Raven Byrd placed ninth in the women's high jump with a 4'11" (1.50m) leap. Junior Sylvia Settles placed 12th with a 4'7" (1.40m) leap.
Junior Tajanel McNeill stepped out of her comfort zone when she competed in the women's javelin throw. She placed 14th with a 83'7" (25.48m) toss.
