HIGH POINT, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams got another strong start with some impressive performances on the opening day of the 2015 VertKlasse Meeting at High Point University in High Point, N.C.
Freshman distance runner Domtilla Kiplaget led the way for the Lady Rams with a third place finish in the women' 5000m run. She ran a 17:46.97 in the event. Joining her on the track was the duo of junior Danisha Wiggins and sophomore Micaylne Zimmerman both had some solid efforts as well in the Bob Davidson women's 1500m run. Zimmerman placed 29th with a 5:02.22 while Wiggins added a 33rd with a 5:04.20.
The Lady Rams also saw some solid performances in the field events as well. Senior Tajanel McNeill won the women's high jump with a 5'3" (1.60m) leap. Sophomore Raven Byrd also had a solid performance with a 26th place effort in the women's javelin throw. She recorded a 75'5.5" (22.94m) while McNeill placed 27th with a 74'3" (22.63m). Freshman Lyssa Wallace-O'Neal added a great performance in the women's shot put with a 38'11.75" (11.88m) throw.
