CHAPEL HILL, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams women's track & field team returned to action, Saturday when the team had some solid performances at the Art & Linda Maillett UNC Open. Competing in their first meet in over a month, the Rams had some strong performances at the meet.
WSSU senior sprinter Ty-Leah Hampton led the way for the team with a pair of top 10 finishes. She placed second in the women's 200m dash with a 25.62 behind a familiar face as former Ram Nya Michaux won the event. She was also eighth in the women's 400m run with a 1:00.28. Senior Micalyne Zimmerman added a fourth-place finish in the women's 800m run when she ran a 2:28.71.
The Rams' relay teams had a strong day as well with a pair of second place finishes. The Rams' distance medley relay team placed second with a 13:15.14 while the Rams' 4x400m relay placed second with a 4:10.30.
In field events, it was freshman Mikel Franklin who led the way when she tied for third in the women's high jump with a 1.60m leap. Senior Lyssa Wallace-O'Neal placed fourth in the women's shot put at 12.09m.
