Rams Close Camel City Invitational With Solid Performances

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams finished the Camel City Invitational with several quality performances, Saturday. Competing in front of a home crowd at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C., the Rams stepped up with several quality performances at the meet. 

The Rams were especially impressive in the long sprints with senior Ty-Leah Hampton leading the way. She placed sixth in the women's 60m dash with a 7.71 in the event. She placed fifth in the women's 200m dash with a 25.29 in the event. Senior Taska Johnson had a solid day in the women's 800m run when she placed 30th with a 2:24.87 in the event.

The Rams also had a solid day in field events. Senior Lyssa Wallace-O'Neal with a 14th place finish in the women's shot put. She recorded a 38'7.75" (11.78m) in the event. Senior Akenah Cherry led the way for the Rams in jumps with a 19th place finish in the women's triple jump. She recorded a 33'" (10.26m) in the event.

The Rams will return to action next weekend when the team heads to Lynchburg, Va. to compete in the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships.
