ROCK HILL, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams women's track & field team had some great performances on the opening day of the Adidas Winthrop Invitational Track & Field Meet, Friday. The Rams had some great efforts at the meet with the team's sprinters turning in some impressive efforts at the meet.
The Rams were especially impressive in the sprint events. WSSU senior sprinter Ty-Leah Hampton got things started when she ran the top time in the Octavia Goode Hank Zapf Women's 200m Dash preliminaries with a 24.40 in the event. With the effort, she posted the top time in the event. Freshmen Kayla Foy and Cierra Thompson will both join Hampton in the event finals tomorrow. Foy placed sixth with a 25.35 while Thompson ran a 25.55 to place eighth. The Rams were also impressive in the Hampton Inn & Suites Women's 100m Dash as Hampton placed third with a 12.06, Foy placed fourth with a 12.09, and Thompson placed fifth with a 12.19. With the effort, the trio qualifies for the event finals tomorrow.
