PHILADELPHIA, PA – Friday was the sprinters' turn as the Rams competed in the 123rd running of The Penn Relays. Competing against some of the top competition in the world and on one of the biggest stages, the Rams' sprints and jumps did not disappoint with some great performances.
WSSU sophomore Dominique Chandler got things started. She competed in the women's triple jump with a 21st place finish in the event. She recorded a 37'3" (11.35m) jump to earn the finish. She was the only Ram to compete in field events on the day, but the team was far from finished.
From there, the Rams saw some great performance on the track. The Rams' 4x200m relay got things started when they placed 30th in the event with a 1:42.61. From there, it was all single events for the Rams with senior Ty-Leah Hampton placing 16th in the women's 100m dash with an 11.95 in the event.
The Rams will return to action next Wednesday when the team takes part in the Liberty Last Chance Meet. For more information on Rams track & field, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
