BRADENTON, FL – The Winston-Salem State Rams stepped up in a big way when the team took the track at the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Meet. The Rams' 4x100m relay team and senior Ty-Leah Hampton punched their tickets to event finals with some great performances in preliminary action, Thursday.
The Rams' 4x100m relay team got things started when they placed fifth in the event, Thursday afternoon. The quartet of freshman Cierra Thompson, Hampton, freshman Ma'Kyia Gayden, and freshman Kayla Foy earned the fifth place finish in the preliminaries with a 45.92 in the event.
Individually, Hampton made her first trip to the finals of the women's 100m dash when she placed seventh with an 11.63. With the effort, she qualified for the event finals. Foy placed 13th with an 11.71 in the event.
The work is not done for the Rams as the team will return to competition tomorrow. Hampton will kick off the day when she takes part in the women's 200m dash preliminary, tomorrow. If she qualifies for the event finals, she will compete in the event finals at 7:45 p.m., Saturday. The Rams 4x100m relay team is set for a 5:10 p.m. start, Saturday while the women's 100m dash finals are set for a 6:35 p.m. start, Saturday.
