KINGSVILLE, TX – Winston-Salem State University will turn its attention to the national stage when the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship Track & Field Championship Meet takes place this weekend. The Rams will take part in two events at the meet with junior Cierra Thompson taking part in the women's 100m dash and the Rams' 4x400m relay team all looking to claim national titles.
Thompson will be the first to take the track for the Rams when she takes part in the preliminary round of the women's 100m dash. She earned her spot at the national championship meet after ranking eighth in the nation with an 11.64, a time that she ran at the 2019 Mount Olive First Chance & Multi. The time came after she won the women's 100m dash as the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet with an 11.89.
Thompson will not be alone as the Rams' 4x400m relay team will join her at the national championship meet. The sophomore squad of Amique Willis, Victoria Porter, Tamia McLean, and Aaliyah Burton will take part in the national championship meet. The quartet earned their spot when they ran a 3:42.55 at the Mount Olive Final Qualifier. The time was good enough to place the Rams at eighth in the nation and seeded at the meet.
