SALEM, VA – The Winston-Salem State Rams women's cross country team continued their run as one of the top teams in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) when the team placed third at the 2019 CIAA Women's Cross Country Championship Meet, Thursday. The third place finish was the team's best finish since the 2017 season and it marked the 10th straight top-five team finish for the Rams.
The team's great performance was highlighted by several tremendous individual performances. WSSU junior Tamia McLean led the way for the Rams with a fifth place finish in the women's 5K run. She ran in a 21:18.6 in the event and earned a spot on the 2019 CIAA All-Conference team. Junior Keyona Johnson had the next best finish for the Rams when she placed 17th with a 22:15.4. Fellow junior Ojai Brooks placed 19th with a 22:25.2 while fellow junior Victoria Porter placed 20th with a 22:29.9.
The effort closes the Ram's 2019 women's cross country season and the team members will now turn their attentions to the indoor track & field season which is scheduled to begin on December 7th.
