Winston-Salem, NC - The Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University swept the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University by the score of 3-0 (30-18, 30-24, 32-30) on Saturday afternoon in CIAA volleyball action from the campus of Winston-Salem State University to earn their fourth win of the season.
The Lady Golden Bulls, who got off to a rough start on Saturday morning due to bus trouble, wasted no time in taking their frustrations out on the Lady Rams as they secured the match's opening-game victory by the score of 30-18.
The Lady Rams responded in game two and held a five-point advantage at 25-20 as they looked to even the contest at one game each, however the Lady Golden Bulls mounted a 7-0 run en route to securing a win in game two by the score of 30-24.
The match's third and final game was much the same as the second as the Lady Golden Bulls used a late rally to propel them to the extra-time win by the score of 32-30 to wrap up the match and earn their fourth win in the process.
JCSU was led by Desirae Riddick who recorded a match-high 19 kills in the win. WSSU was led by Ciera Simpson and Brandi Beane who each tallied nine kills in the loss.
With the win, the Lady Golden Bulls move to 4-8 overall (4-8 CIAA) on the season while the Lady Rams fall to 7-17 overall (4-8 CIAA) with the loss.
WSSU returns to action on Monday, October 3rd, 2005 at 6:00 pm when they play host to the Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University in a CIAA league contest at Whitaker Gymnasium.
