This will be accomplished through the six domains of athletic training as established by the National Athletic Training Association, these include:

  • Injury Prevention & Wellness Promotion
  • Recognition, Evaluation, and Assessment
  •  Immediate Care
  • Treatment, Rehabilitation, and Reconditioning
  • Organization and Administration
  • Professional Development and Responsibility

Winston-Salem State University Certified Athletic Trainers must adhere to the National Athletic Trainers' Association Code of Ethics and the Rules and Statues set forth by the state's governing bodies and the licensure regulation committee, the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners (NCBATE).

VISION

The main foundation of the WSSU Sports Medicine Department focuses on the idea that we truly care about our profession and the student-athlete population. It is the philosophy of the Sports Medicine staff that all student-athletes will be treated fairly and ethically regardless of sport, age, gender, race, religion, or any other identifying individualities. In addition, the Sports Medicine staff will provide the best possible medical care within the confines of the resources that are available. Respect will be given to all, and the same will be expected in return.

The WSSU Sports Medicine Department provides optimal medical services for the student-athlete through systematic screening and management of each individual. The WSSU Sports Medicine Department is grounded in the philosophy that injury prevention along with progressive training principles leads to optimal athletic performance. Furthermore, the WSSU Sports Medicine Department strives to provide our intercollegiate student-athletes with the highest standard in health care. In doing so, the Sports Medicine staff is devoted to facilitating exemplary care, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses.

Our primary goal is to always put the health and welfare of the student-athlete first. The Sports Medicine staff will return all injured and ill student-athletes to participation as soon as the athlete is medically fit to participate without causing further harm.
