Final Stats
Salisbury, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Rams football team improved to 4-3 overall on the season and pushed their CIAA record to 4-0 on Saturday evening in Salisbury, NC as they ran their way to a 42-14 victory over the Blue Bears of Livingstone College.
The Rams, who traveled the 35 miles to Salisbury, NC looking for their fourth straight win, easily accomplished their goal as they used a grinding, power running offense to control the ball and the game en route to another convincing Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association league victory.
The game would never be in doubt for the Rams as WSSU jumped all over the Blue bears early, scoring on five of their first six possessions in the game as the visiting Rams opened up a 35-0 lead heading into the lockeroom at the halftime intermission.
It would be the Ram running game that would earn the win for the Rams as WSSU piled up 466 yards of total offense, 456 of which would come via the ground attack.
The ground-based offense would lead to big days for the two-headed running back duo of Martin Hicks (Sr./Oxford, NC) and Jed Bines (Jr./Winston-Salem, NC) as both of the Ram rushers would scored three touchdowns each.
Hicks, who has led the CIAA in rushing for the past two seasons, continued his running dominance as he carried the ball 14 times for 218 yards. He would score all three of his touchdowns during the game's first half.
Hicks' running mate Bines would get in on the action as well as he carried the ball 15 times for 163 yards as he cracked into the endzone three times.
The Rams looked as though they would record their second shutout of the season, however, the Blue Bears would record a pair of touchdowns late in the game versus the WSSU reserves.
With the victory, the Rams improve to 4-3 overall on the season, and more importantly move to 4-0 in the CIAA as they remain atop of the Western Division.
The victory sets up a key week #8 match-up as the Rams will return to action on October 15th, 2005 at 6:00 pm as they play host to the Eagles of North Carolina Central University.
