Bowie, MD - The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs only needed seven players to defeat the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University by 26 points on Tuesday evening in Bowie, MD as BSU cruised by WSSU 76-50 at A.C. Jordan Arena to drop WSSU to 0-1 in the CIAA.
The Lady Bulldogs were the beneficiaries of two players who recorded double-doubles as Allyson Swailes recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds and Markeya Watson tallied 13 points and 15 rebounds en route to the relatively easy win.
The difference in the contest would prove to be turnovers as the Lady Rams committed 23 turnovers while the home-team Lady Bulldogs gave the ball away only 12 times.
The lead would change four times, all in the early-going as the Bulldogs pulled away from WSSU midway through the first half of play en route to a 13 point halftime lead as BSU headed to the locker room leading 40-27 at the half.
The second period of play got no better for WSSU as the Bulldogs again outscored the Lady Rams by 13 points as they cruised to the win.
WSSU was paced by Janet Robinson who tallied a team-high nine points and five rebounds. Mikasa Williams chipped in with eight points and six rebounds.
The Lady Rams fall to 3-4 overall with the loss, and fall to 0-1 in the CIAA. WSSU has dropped three straight contests following the loss.
WSSU returns to action on December 6, 2005 as they travel to Boone, NC to face Division I's Appalachian State University at 7:00 pm.
