Final Stats
RICHMOND, VA - The Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University watched Janet Robinson's last-second shot carom off of the rim with eight-tenths of a second remaining on Thursday evening at Barco-Stevens Hall as they fell in defeat 50-48 to the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University.
Facing a one-point deficit, Robinson put up a running one-hander in the lane that looked as though it would earn the Lady Rams a win before it struck the back iron and bounced into the arms of VUU's Ciara Alston.
Alston hit the second of a pair of free throws and the Lady Rams were unable to get a shot off with only .08 on the clock and 94 feet of hardwood staring them down.
The loss, which is the fourth consecutive for the Lady Rams, drops them to 5-9 overall and 0-3 in the CIAA.
Leading the way for WSSU was then aforementioned Robinson who tallied 15 points in the loss. She was joined in double-figures by First-Team All-CIAA forward Shalonda Carter who recorded 13 points.
WSSU shot a frigid 35% from the field and committed 16 turnovers in the contest in the losing effort.
The Lady Rams return to action on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 as they play host to the 19th ranked team in the nation as they welcome the Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine's College. Game time is slated for 5:30 pm in the LJVM Coliseum Annex.
