Lady Rams Fall To 0-5 Overall With A 73-63 Loss To Johnson C. Smith

Nov. 25, 2006

Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Kadina Baldwin led the Lady Rams in four statistical categories with 17 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals but the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University were too much for WSSU on Saturday as JCSU earned a 73-63 win at the C.E. Gaines Center in women's college basketball action.

Baldwin, a 5'4", senior guard led the team in four statistical categories marking the first time in the history of the women's basketball program that a player has led the team in all four offensive statistical categories.

Baldwin led three Lady Rams in double-figure scoring as Lavontay Johnson added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Shalonda Carter tallied 13 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

The Lady Golden Bulls led by as many as 14 points during first-half action as they were ahead in the contest 30-16 with 4:41 to play in the first period.

WSSU head coach Dee Stokes immediately made defensive adjustments that drew WSSU to within six points at 34-28 headed into the locker room at halftime.

Second half action saw JCSU once again add to their lead as WSSU trailed by as many as 15 points midway through the game's final 20 minutes of play.

Again the Lady Rams would trim the lead back, cutting the deficit to as little as three points with 2:03 to play.

A layup and a pair of Whittney Barnes free throws, coupled with two points from the free throw line for Janai Jackson inside of two minutes to play, sealed the Lady Rams fate as JCSU preserved the victory.

Leading the way for the Lady Golden Bulls was Rochelle Body who turned in 17 points and 10 rebounds as she led three Lady Golden Bulls into double-figures.  In a note of interest, JCSU's Tiana Pope, who came into the contest needing only 11 points to earn 1,000 career points, fouled out the game with only six points leaving her with 995 points for her career.

The win moves the Lady Golden Bulls to 3-1 on the season while WSSU falls to 0-5 with the loss.  The Lady Rams return to action on Monday, November 27, 2006 as they travel to Norfolk, VA to face the Spartans of Norfolk State University.  Tip-off is slated for 7:00 pm.
