Final Stats
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Television games have been kind to the Rams as of late as WSSU improved their record to 4-2 in televised games in the Philip Stitt head-coaching era as the Rams defeated Fayetteville State University by the score of 76-58 in a CIAA league men's basketball contest that was broadcast live on ESPN-U from Capel Arena in Fayetteville, NC on Sunday.
WSSU forced 11 first-half Fayetteville State University turnovers that generated countless easy transition baskets for the Rams as they shot a scorching 57.7% from the field during the first 20 minutes of play.
The Rams' hot shooting and staunch defense paved the way for WSSU's 16-point cushion over of the Broncos headed into the locker room at halftime as they led the home team 38-22.
WSSU continued to hold a double-digit lead deep into the second half of play as the Broncos would get only as close as nine points midway through the period before senior guard Corey Parker pushed WSSU's lead back to a more manageable 16 points.
Parker hit three consecutive field goals for the Rams over a span of only two minutes as he hit back-to-back three pointers and a driving scoop lay-up to increase the WSSU margin back to double-digits, giving WSSU a lead from which Fayetteville State would never recover.
Leading the way for the victorious Rams was Alleggrie Guinn who tallied 15 points in the contest. He was joined in double figures by teammates Jamal Durham (14 points), Corey Parker (14 points) and Audly Wehner (11 points and 11 rebounds).
With the win, the Rams improve to 16-9 overall and move to 9-6 in the CIAA in the process. WSSU also moves to one game above .500 in the CIAA Western Division as they improve their division record to 5-4.
The Broncos fall to 12-13 overall and drop to 7-7 in the CIAA. The loss also pushes Fayetteville State to 4-6 in the CIAA Western Division.
WSSU returns to action on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at the LJVM Coliseum Annex as they face the Eagles of North Carolina Central University in the Rams' second to last regular-season game before the start of the 2006 CIAA Men's Basketball Tournament on March 1, 2006 at 7:30 PM.
