Final Stats

RALEIGH, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams dropped their fifth straight game on Tuesday evening as they fell in defeat to the Saint Augustine's College Lady Falcons at Emery Gymnasium by the score of 72-65 as WSSU dropped to 7-17 overall and 2-10 in the CIAA (1-5 CIAA West).

The Lady Rams fell behind early in the contest as Saint Augustine's College recorded the first two field goals of the game as the Lady Falcons pushed onward towards a first-half lead that reached as many as 10 points exactly halfway through the first period of play.

Despite the double-digit deficit, the Lady Rams mounted a comeback late in the first half that was sparked by a total team effort that saw six players record field goals over nine minutes of play en route to WSSU cutting the SAC lead to only one point at the halftime intermission at 36-35.

The Lady Falcons continued to use the crowd in the cramped Emery Gym to their advantage in the second half as yet another SAC run pushed their lead back to as many as nine points on four different occasions over the final 20 minutes of play.

The runs and energy of the opposing crowd wore the Lady Rams down in the game's latter stages as WSSU would ultimately fall in defeat by seven points, as the Lady Rams dropped the 72-65 decision.

With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 7-17 overall and 2-10 in the CIAA.  More importantly, WSSU drops to 1-5 in the CIAA Western Division.

With the win, the Lady Falcons move to 13-9 overall and 6-7 in the CIAA.  The victory moves SAC back into the running for the CIAA Western Division crown at one game below .500 at 3-4 in the CIAA West.

WSSU was led by Janet Robinson who tallied 17 points in the loss.  She was joined by Shalonda Carter who tallied 15 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

The Lady Rams will return to action on February 11, 2006 at 5:30 PM as they travel to Brayboy Gymnasium in Charlotte, NC to face the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University.
