Lady Rams Pick Up Clutch Three-Set Win at Livingstone

Oct. 13, 2010

Box Score

SALISBURY, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (10-12, 10-5 CIAA) picked up their 10th win of the season with a three-set win at Livingstone (10-11, 6-8 CIAA). It was the Lady Rams' offensive punch that knocked out the Lady Blue Bears as WSSU totaled 43 kills in the 25-17, 28-26, and 25-21 victory.

It was the team's senior duo of outside hitter Ashley Harris and middle blocker Georgette Allen who led the way for the team. Harris totaled a team-best 16 kills on 33 total attacks in the game. Allen added 12 kills. Sophomore setter Kiara Brown coordinated the WSSU effort with 30 assists in the match. Senior Erica Cole nearly pulled off a double-double of her own in the match with nine kills and nine digs.

The first match turned out to be the easiest of the match for the Lady Rams as the team took the 25-17 win. After taking an 18-15 win, the Lady Rams mounted a seven-to-two run to seal the opening set win. The second set was a different matter, however, as the team fought off a stubborn Livingstone team that pushed the set into extra points. The Lady Rams and Lady Blue Bears battled their way into a 22-22 tie. The Lady Rams would push their way to 24 first, but a Livingstone kill would tie the set and force extra points. In the end, it was a Harris kill and a bad Livingstone set that ended the threat for the Lady Rams.

In the final set of the match, the Lady Rams led the entire way after building a 6-5 lead. The Lady Rams never looked back as they pushed their lead to as many as five points, 23-18. Though the Blue Bears made a late run, the Lady Rams were able to hold on for the victory.

The Lady Rams will have a bit of a break as the team will host the Lady Blue Bears next Monday in a 6:00 p.m. senior day match. For more information on Lady Rams volleyball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2909 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
