WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (3-2) suffered a heartbreaking 53-48 loss to the Anderson Trojans (2-2), Thursday evening. The Lady Rams struggled shooting the ball against a tough Anderson defense, but utilized a great defensive effort to gather themselves and keep the game close, but in the end, the team's rally fell short. Junior guard Courtney Medley led the Lady Rams with a quiet 12 points and five rebounds in the tough loss.

The Lady Rams had a tough shooting night to say the least as the team shot just 33.3% from the floor, including a dismal 12% shooting effort in the first half that led to just nine WSSU points for the half. Both were season lows for the Lady Rams. The Lady Rams made up for their shooting woes with some solid defense, as the team was able to force 20 Trojan turnovers. Both junior forward Chloe Morse and junior guard Carlisa Haggler gave solid performances off the bench with eight points each.

The first half was a tough one for the Lady Rams. The team ran into their struggles early as they were held scoreless for the first six minutes of the game and allowed Anderson to jump out to a 9-0 lead. The Lady Rams continued to have a tough time executing their offense for the entire half, but were able to keep the Trojans within reach the entire time. The team only allowed their opponents to take a 12-point lead at the 5:15 mark. For the half, the Lady Rams shot just 12% from the field and totaled just one assist with 10 turnovers. Still, the team kept the game within reach with a 21-9 halftime score.

In the second half, the Lady Rams picked up their intensity on both ends of the court and nearly erased the Trojans' lead. By the 13:01 mark, the Lady Rams' deficit was reduced to just one point, 28-27 as junior guard Carlisa Haggler led the charge. It was a Haggler three-pointer that pulled the Lady Rams within one point. Down the stretch, the Lady Rams continued their push, but failed to get the key stops while the Trojans were able to hold on and pull out the victory.

The Lady Rams won't have long to out, however, as the team returns to the court Saturday against the Rams of Bluefield College. For more information on Lady Rams' basketball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2909 or log onto www.WSSUrams.com.
