Sept. 12, 2010

Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (4-5, 3-1 CIAA) fought past both fatigue and a tough Lincoln squad to pick up a four-set victory on the second day of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Volleyball Round Up. After playing three matches on Saturday, including two five-set outings, the Lady Rams were able to find enough energy to top the Lions, 25-14, 25-18, 20-25, and 25-20.

The Lady Rams cruised in the first set as the team rattled off an 11-3 run that keyed the opening set win. The team continued to roll in the second set when a late WSSU run put the win away. The Lions were able to battle back for a third set win, but the Lady Rams' offense was too much in the fourth and final set.

As a team, the Lady Rams mounted a strong offensive attack, totaling 48 kills as a team along with 10 service aces. Senior hitter Erica Cole stepped up every facet of the game, leading the Lady Rams with a double-double 14 kills and 13 digs. Junior hitter Adrianne Alexander made her presence felt as well with a season-high 10 kills in the match.

The Lady Rams will return to action on Wednesday evening when the team hosts the Fayetteville State Broncos in a 6:00 p.m. match at the C.E. Gaines Center.
