CHARLOTTE, NC - The Winston-Salem State Rams (17-6, 10-5 CIAA) could find no answers in a 68-50 loss to the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (14-9, 10-5 CIAA), Saturday evening. The Rams struggled in every facet of the game as the hostile crowd and a talented, aggressive Golden Bulls team spelled trouble for the Rams in the loss.

"We didn't do a very good job of being patient on offense early, not that we did a good job of shooting early with just 19 first half points. When we don't score on offense, our defense suffers as well," WSSU men's basketball head coach Bobby Collins said. "But we've got to do a better job. Coming down the stretch, we've got to show a lot more toughness."

As a team, the Rams struggled against the Golden Bulls defense all night long, shooting just 31.6% from the field, including shooting just one-for-15 from the three-point line, with 16 turnovers. The Rams' 50 total points marked a season-low team total. WSSU also struggled against a hot-shooting Golden Bulls team that shot 40.0% from the field. WSSU senior forward Paul Davis was the only Ram to reach double-digit scoring in the game with a team-high 10 points in the game. Redshirt-senior guard Shelton Carter added eight points with a team-high seven rebounds.

The WSSU struggles began early with 19 first half points for the Rams. In the first half, the Rams shot just 28.6% from the field. The team was able to rally for a better second half, shooting 34.5% from the field, but could never get things going.

The Rams will return to action on Monday when the Rams host the Shaw Bears in a Senior Night Blackout game. For more information on Rams basketball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
