EMPORIA, VA - The Winston-Salem State Rams (8-6, 5-2 CIAA) picked up 4-3 win over the Saint Paul's Tigers (0-5, 0-5 CIAA), Saturday. After taking a 3-3 tie into the final inning of the game, sophomore infielder German Reyes hit the game-winning home run in the final inning of the game to lead the Rams to the one-run win.
As a team, the Rams had a solid offensive day with seven hits. Reyes led the way for the Rams with a three-for-three effort at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Junior outfielder Brice Rivenbark added two-for-three effort at the plate with a run scored.
The two teams went scoreless for the first three innings of the game, but junior catcher Forrest Edwards hit an RBI single to break the scoring seal. Edwards would also score on a double by freshman infielder Casey Starbuck that put the Rams ahead 2-0. However, the Rams allowed a pair of Saint Paul's scored in the bottom of the inning with a pair of RBI singles.
Reyes would put the Rams ahead once again with a fifth-inning solo home run that left WSSU on top 3-2, but the Tigers answered once again with an unearned fifth-inning run. However, Reyes would hit his second home run of the game in the seventh-inning and put the Rams on top for good, 4-3.
Freshman pitcher Scott Wells (2-0) picked up the pitching win with seven innings on the mound with eight hits allowed, but just three earned runs. Wells had a great day with 10 strikeouts.
