Box Score

THOMASVILLE, NC - The Winston-Salem State Rams (12-8) fell victim to a late rally in a 6-2 loss to the Brevard College Tornados (9-10), Tuesday afternoon. After battling to a 2-2 tie through the first six innings, the Rams allowed four seventh-inning runs to seal the tough loss.

The game was a tough defensive battle for both teams with the two squads combining for 11 hits and eight runs. Unfortunately, the Rams came up on the short end with just four team hits in the loss. WSSU freshman infielder Andrew Miller led the way for the Rams with two hits and an RBI. The junior tandem of catcher Michael Robbins and outfielder Dominique Fitzgerald both scored runs in the loss.

Things looked well for the Rams as the team struck first with a pair of first inning runs. The Rams scored the runs on back-to-back RBI singles by Miller and sophomore shortstop German Reyes. However, the two scores were all that the Rams could manage against the tough Tornado defense. The Tornados tied the game in the fourth inning before a seventh-inning grand slam home run.

WSSU freshman pitcher Joseph Herbert (3-3) took the pitching loss as he took the mound with the score tied. Herbert pitched three innings with two earned runs allowed with six strikeouts. Sophomore Wesley Edwards started the game and went five innings with six strikeouts and a pair of earned runs allowed.

The Rams will return to action, Thursday afternoon when the team hosts the Davis & Elkins Senators in a 1:00 p.m. single game at Ed Price Field in High Point, N.C.
