Lady Rams Turn In Stellar Effort in Three-Set Win at Shaw

RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (6-9, 6-3, CIAA) picked up a key Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) win, Monday when the team took a three-set win over the Shaw Lady Bears (2-14, 1-7 CIAA), Monday evening. The Lady Rams turned in one of their most impressive performances of the season and utilized a strong service game and a stellar defensive effort to pick up the 25-16, 25-11, and 25-17 win.

The Lady Rams had one of their best defensive efforts of the season as they held the Lady Bears to just 11 kills and just 44 total points in the match. The Lady Rams also recorded 16 service aces in the match. Both freshman outside hitter Brittany Rich and freshman libero Kayla Brass recorded five service aces each in the match. Brass also added a career-high 13 assists in the match. Freshman middle blocker Lauren Aikens led the WSSU attack with seven kills in the match.

The win was the second straight conference win for the Lady Rams. The team will return home for their next competition when the team hosts the Johnson C. Smith Lady Golden Bears, next Monday.
