WSSU Rams Snap Two Game Skid With 74-54 Win Over Livingstone College

Box Score

SALISBURY, NC -- Kimani Hunt scored a career high 27 points, and Justin Glover added 21 as the Winston-Salem State University Rams snapped a two-game losing streak Saturday night, with a 74-54 win over the Livingstone College Blue Bears at Trent Gymnasium on the Livingstone campus.

With the win, the #25 WSSU Rams move to 16-4 overall, 8-2 in the CIAA and 2-2 in the Southern Division.  Livingstone falls to 5-12 overall, 2-8 in the CIAA and 1-3 in the Southern Division.

The first half was a game of runs, where each team took their turn at controlling the game.  But the Rams defensive pressure forced the Blue Bears into poor shooting all night, especially in the first half where Livingstone was held to just 34.5% shooting.

Winston-Salem State shot 50% from the floor in the first half and also converted six for seven free throws.

With a late run by Livingstone in the first half, the Blue Bears had cut into the WSSU lead, but Kimani Hunt's three pointer with just under eight seconds pushed the Rams lead to 34-27 heading to locker room at halftime.

In the second half, WSSU started out on fire behind Kimani Hunt and Joe Thompson and pushed their lead to double digits, leading by 13 with 15:25 left in the contest.  But the Blue Bears would answer with a 10-1 run to cut the Ram lead down to four with 11:58 on the clock.

But once again WSSU's Kimani Hunt would lead the spark to push the Rams back out in front by double digits, and Winston-Salem State would never look back.

For the game, the score was tied three times and the lead changed hands five different times in the WSSU win.

WSSU outscored the Blue Bears 28-26 in the paint, and scored 21 points off of Livingstone turnovers.

Kimani Hunt was a staggering six of eight from behind the 3-pt arc, and was nine of 11 from the floor period.  He also connected on all three free throw attempts for his 27 points and pulled down a team high nine rebounds.  Justin Glover added 21 points to go along with three rebounds, one assists and three steals. WyKevin Bazemore chipped in nine points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal, while Joseph Thompson finished with eight points and five rebounds, and point guard Marcus Wells added seven points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals.

For Livingstone College, Mark Thomas led the Blue Bears with 16 points, while Nasir Austin added 12 points and Tyler Johnson led the Blue Bears on the boards with seven rebounds.

Winston-Salem State will return back to the friendly confines of the CE Gaines Center on Monday night to face the Saint Augustine's Falcons at 7:30 PM.  WSSU will be looking for revenge as the Falcons halted the Rams winning streak last weekend with a 61-55 win in Raleigh.
