WSSU's CJ Ford Named CIAA Co-Newcomer Of The Week

HAMPTON, VA – Winston-Salem State junior guard, CJ Ford, was honored as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Co-Newcomer of the Week, Tuesday morning.

Ford had a great week for the Rams, as he averaged 8.7 points, 1.3 assists and 1.7 steals, as the Rams went 2-1 to start the season. WSSU went 2-1 with wins over Allen University, and 2013-14 D2 Final Four participant, USC Aiken. Ford's best game came against USC Aiken, where he scored 20 points with five rebounds, one assist and one steal. He sealed the win for WSSU with four made free throws in the final 30.8 seconds to secure the win. Ford was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Winston-Salem State Rams will be back in action on Tuesday evening and Saturday afternoon this week, as they will host the Barber Scotia Sabres and the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on Saturday afternoon.

The WSSU Rams are coming off of a weekend where they went 1-1 in the USC Aiken tip Off Classic. The Rams dropped a 66-58 game to Columbus State in the opener, but followed that up with a big win over the host, USC Aiken, 80-76, on Saturday night.  Winston-Salem State's CJ Ford and WyKevin Bazemore were named to the 2014 All-Tip Off Classic team.

The WSSU Rams began their season with a throwback game against Allen University in Whitaker Gym while the new CE Gaines Center floor was going through it final touches of being installed.

WSSU will host The Glenville State Pioneers on Monday at the CE Gaines Center - the final home game before the Christmas holiday.
