Rams Baseball Falls to #14 Millersville University, 7-4

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Winston-Salem State University could not overcome errors and a big inning, as the Rams dropped a 7-4 decision to #14 Millersville University Saturday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark in downtown in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the first innings, as Leland Clemmons walked and then stole second base. Clemmons moved over to third on a Gavin Culler groundout, and then was brought home on a Ray Crawford fielder's choice, giving WSSU the 1-0 lead.

WSSU would come back in the bottom half of the second inning with another run, when Jacob Barber led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch. Barber advanced to second on an Alex Grubb single to right field. Gabian Mundo singled and Barber scored on the play, giving WSSU a 2-0 lead.

Millersville would get three hits in the fourth inning and plated one run to cut into the Ram lead, 2-1.

After holding the Rams to a quick three and out, the Marauders would break the game open in the fifth inning, scoring three runs on three hits with a WSSU error to take their first lead at 4-2.

The Marauders picked up two more run on two hits in the seventh inning to widen the margin to 6-2.

Winston-Salem State battled back in the eighth inning when Levi Grassley and Jacob Barber started the inning with back to back walks. Alex Grubb doubled to right center field, scoring Grassley and advancing Barber to third base. Colby Keane singled scoring Barber, but the Rams could not get another run in the inning.

Millersville scored another run in the ninth to take a 7-4 win over WSSU.

With the loss, WSSU falls to 1-4 overall, and #14 Millersville University improves to 1-1.

For WSSU, Levi Grassley finished the game two for three with a run scored, and Alex Grubb finished two for four with a run batted in and a double. Gavin Culler was one for four with a double, Gabian Mundo also picked up a hit and a rbi, and Jacob Barber scored two runs. Colby Keanse was one for one in his only at bat, with a run batted in.

Winston-Salem State and Millersville will wrap up the series tomorrow at BB&T Ballpark with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
