RAMS SPLIT DOUBLE HEADER WITH MERCYHURST LAKERS

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Winston-Salem State University baseball came away with a split of a double header between the Rams and Mercyhurst University, played today at BB&T Ballpark in downtown Winston-Salem.

Mercyhurst won the first game 11-3, and Winston-Salem State fought back for a 7-1 victory in the nightcap.

In the afternoon's first game, Winston-Salem State got on the scoreboard first, and jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a Conner Andrus walk, that brought home Leland Clemmons, but Mercyhurst would take control by scoring three runs in the top of the second, two in the fourth and five in the fifth inning to bust the game wide open.

Devin McLemore led the Rams at the plate, going three for four with a run batted in. He homered to left field in the second inning. Chris Kane went two for two with a rbi, and Leland Clemmons finished one for three with a run scored. Eddie Araujo finished one for two. Levi Grassley scored a run and Conner Andrus picked up a rbi.

In game #2, Rafael Gonzalez drove in two runs, while Conner Andrus went two for two with a run scored and a rbi, and Colby Keane went two for three with two runs scored and a run batted in as the Rams came back with a 7-1 win.

Leland Clemmons finished the game one for three with a run batted in, while Gavin Culler and Ray Crawford each finished one for three with a run scored. Aaron Hatch also went one for three with a run batted in.

Devin McLemore pitched six strong innings, allowing just one run while striking out four in picking up his first win of the season. Leland Clemmons pitches a scoreless ninth inning.

Winston-Salem State and Mercyhurst will play again tomorrow at BB&T Ballpark with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
