Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (6-9, 2-3 CIAA) had one of their best offensive efforts of the season when the team took an impressive 70-47 win over the Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings (6-9, 1-5 CIAA), Monday evening. The Lady Rams took the win behind one of their top offensive performances of the season with the team scoring 70 points in the game and shooting a scorching hot 44.0% from the floor in the game.
The Lady Rams took the impressive win behind a great overall effort. In addition to the team's hot shooting effort, the Lady Rams held the Lady Vikings to shooting just 32.0% from the floor (16-of-50) in the game. WSSU junior guard Kesheria McNeil and senior forward Dionna Scott led the way for the Lady Rams with 12 points each in the game. Junior forward Jeri Craine also had a great effort as she nearly pulled out a double-double with nine points and seven rebounds.
The game was a tough battle for both teams early as they battled to a 10-10 tie with 12:48 left in the first half. It was then that the Lady Rams took control of the game with a 20-7 run that left WSSU with a 30-17 lead after a pair of McNeil free throws at the 3:18 mark. From there, the Lady Rams found themselves on the defensive and they allowed a 7-4 run by the Lady Vikings and took a 34-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The second half told a much different story as the Lady Rams took control of the game and never looked back. The Lady Rams kicked things off with seven straight points, including a pair of lay-ups from sophomore center Sha'Quira Palmer and a three-pointer from redshirt-senior guard Taylar Wells. The effort left the Lady Rams on top, 41-24 with 18:21 left to play. Once in control, the Lady Rams kept up their efforts as the team pushed its lead to 20 points, 61-41 at the 7:18 mark. After pushing their lead to as many as 27 points, 70-43 after a three-pointer from senior guard Briana Wilder's three-pointer at the 1:46 mark, the Lady Rams allowed a pair of ECSU baskets in the final minute to finish off the 70-47 victory.
The win gave the team its second win in its last three outings. The Lady Rams improve to 6-9 overall and 2-3 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will begin CIAA Southern Division play next weekend when they take on the Saint Augustine's Lady Falcons.
