Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Winston-Salem State's Demone Harrison scored 21 points, and the Rams outrebounded the Panthers by 10, as WSSU picked up a big non-conference road win 82-71 over Virginia Union Friday night at Barco-Steven Hall on the VUU campus.
With the win, WSSU improves to 4-2 overall, while the Panthers of Virginia Union falls to 2-3.
The Winston-Salem State University Rams took control and the lead midway through the first half and never looked back as WSSU would take a 33-27 lead into the locker room at the half.
The second half proved to be all Rams, as WSSU busted open a close contest with a solid defensive effort, and mastery of the rebounds while converting 24 of 36 second half free throws as the Rams out lasted the Panthers 82-71.
Demone Harrison scored 21 points, to go with four rebounds, while Rayvon Harris and Carlos Rankins each scored 12 points. Harris also added five rebounds and Rankins added four rebounds, three assists and one blocked shot. CJ Ford chipped in 10 rebounds and three assists. Jerome Simmons scored seven points and pulled down five rebounds, and Keith Armstrong and TJ Wilson added six points each. Armstrong also pulled down a team high nine rebounds and two blocked shots, and Wilson added five rebounds and two assists.
Winston-Salem State will continue on road, as the Rams will travel to Glenville, WV on Tuesday for a 7:00pm tipoff against the Glenville State Pioneers.
