Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State bats were cold on opening night, as Millersville University took a 3-0 victory over the Rams at BB&T Ballpark.
Millersville University picked up single runs in the first, third and fourth innings, while the Marauder pitchers kept the WSSU Rams off balance at the plate all evening.
Even when the Ram batters made solid contact, the Millersville defenders where able to make the play in keeping Winston-Salem State out of the run column. Winston-Salem State managed just two hits on the night.
Sam Burton took the loss for Winston-Salem State, allowing three runs, four walks and six hits in 3.1 innings. Roy Garrison had a solid outing for the Rams in his first action for WSSU, pitching 5.2 shutout innings in relief.
Brandon Fowler finished 1 for 2, and Michael McNamara went 1 for 3, picking ujp the only two hits for Winston-Salem State.
Millersville's Brandon Miller lived up to the hype, surrendering just one hit and two baserunners while striking out nine in 6.2 innings. The Marauders received RBI hits from Dan Stoltzfus, John Brogan and Dan Neff.
Winston-Salem State and Millersville will play a double header on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00pm at BB&T Ballpark.
