Box Score RALEIGH, NC – St. Augustine's Anthony Gaskins hit a fall away three pointer at the buzzer to defeat the Winston-Salem State Rams 58-55 at Emery Gym in Raleigh, on the St. Augustine's campus.
The loss drops the WSSU Rams to 11-12 overall, 5-7 in the CIAA and 4-2 in the Southern Division. St. Augustine's improves to 9-13 overall, 4-8 in the CIAA and 4-2 in the Southern Division. Winston-Salem State is now locked into a three way tie with Johnson C. Smith and the St. Aug Falcons for first place in the division.
After taking a 24-23 lead into the locker room at the half, poor free throw shooting down the stretch doomed the Rams, and allowed the Falcons to work their into position for final shot.
Terrell Leach led the Rams with 14 points, while also finishing with two rebounds, two steals, two assists and one blocked shot. Keith Armstrong added 13 points and seven rebounds.
Quincy January led the Falcons with 19 points and 15 rebounds and Anthony Gaskins finished with 14 points for the Falcons, while also adding five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
WSSU shot just seven of 21 from the free throw line on the day, and was also outrebounded 40 to 29.
Winston-Salem State will host he Bears of Shaw University on Wednesday at 7:30pm at the CE Gaines Center on the WSSU campus.
