WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-4) had no problems hitting the ball, but the team fell short in a 4-2 loss to the Concord Mountain Lions (2-3), Friday evening. The Rams took the loss in spite of a solid hitting performance with nine hits in the game. However, the team left 10 runners on base to take the hard-fought loss.

The Rams had a solid hitting effort, but some fielding miscues along with some hitting droughts in critical spots in the tough loss. As a team, the Rams totaled nine hits in the game. Senior centerfielder Randy Norris led the way going two-for-three from the plate while junior third baseman Emilio Abreu added a two-for-four batting effort with a run scored. Freshman outfielder Luke Spiva added a pair of hits as well. Freshman Wellington Guzman was one-for-one batting with a walk and an RBI.

The Rams' runs came in the bottom of the second inning. Spiva got things going with an RBI single to score Abreu, followed by a Guzman RBI single to score junior designated hitter Trenton Smiley. The Rams allowed a pair of sixth inning runs, followed by a pair of seventh inning runs to take the 4-2 loss.

WSSU freshman Peyton Bennett (0-1) took the pitching loss, allowing two earned runs in the game. Senior Seth Reeves got the start and went five innings with two runs allowed (one earned) and recorded five strikeouts.
