Rams Take 4-1 Win Over Indiana (Pa.) for Ninth Straight Victory

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (14-6) pushed their winning streak to nine games when the team took a 4-1 win over the Indiana (Pa.) Crimson Hawks (0-8), Saturday afternoon. The Rams took the win behind a great defensive effort as the team held the Crimson Hawks to just one seventh-inning run to claim their ninth straight win.

As a team, the Rams had a great offensive and defensive effort to take the win. The Rams made the most of their six hits in the game, turning them into four runs. Six Rams notched one hit each in the game with junior second base Rashad Stewart hitting a solo home run and senior left fielder John Garcia hitting a double with a run scored.

The Rams took control of the game early and held off a late rally attempt by the Crimson Hawks to take the win. WSSU broke the scoring seal in the first inning when senior right fielder Brandon Ford hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score junior center fielder Randy Norris. The run was followed by sophomore catcher Cole Parks hitting an RBI single to score Garcia in the third inning. The Rams added to their score with a pair of sixth inning runs. Stewart got things started with a solo home run that was followed by an RBI single from senior first base Randal Ortiz that scored junior designated hitter Michael Moorehead to leave the Rams on top, 4-0.

WSSU senior Seth Reeves (2-1) took the pitching win, going 6.1 innings on the mound with one run allowed, one earned on four hits with seven strikeouts. Freshman Tomas Goco came in for two-thirds inning of an inning with no runs allowed on no hits.

With the win, the Rams improve to 14-6 overall and extends its winning streak to nine game. The two teams would go on to complete the doubleheader later in the day.
