Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (10-6) staged a seventh-inning rally to secure a 5-4 win over the University of the Sciences Devils (3-7), Sunday afternoon. After taking a 4-3 deficit into the seventh inning of the game, the Rams needed a walk off two-RBI single from sophomore right fielder Brandon Ford to claim the win.

The Rams played some clutch offense and defense to take the thrilling win. As a team, the Rams totaled six hits in the game and held the Devils to four runs on five hits allowed. WSSU junior outfielder Randy Norris led the way, going two-for-three at the plate with a triple and two runs scored. Sophomore Brandon Ford added a two-for-four batting effort with a home run and four runs batted in (RBI).

The Rams jumped out to an early lead, but had to rally back after a late surge from the Devils. The Rams opened the game on a high note when senior left fielder John Garcia hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score junior second base Rashad Stewart in the three inning. The Ram added two more runs when Ford hit a two-run home run to leave the Rams with a 3-0 lead over the Devils. The University of the Sciences answered in a big way with three fourth inning runs and then added a sixth-inning home run to leave the Rams trailing, 4-3 heading into the seventh inning. With the team needing a rally, the Rams ended the game when Ford hit a two-RBI single to score Garcia and Norris.

WSSU sophomore Cole Parks (1-0) took the pitching win. Parks went 1.0 innings for the Rams with no runs on no hits allowed with two strikeouts. Redshirt-freshman pitcher Jalen Scott did the bulk of the work with the start and 3.2 innings on the mound. Scott finished with three runs allowed (three earned) with three strikeouts.

With the win, the Rams improve to 10-6 on the season. The Rams and the Devils will return to action tomorrow when the team closes out the weekend series with the University of the Sciences in a 4:00 p.m. single game.
