ETTRICK, VA – The runs were hard to come by when the Winston-Salem State Rams (27-16) took a 4-2 road loss to the Virginia State Trojans (26-15-1), Saturday afternoon. The Rams were held to just two runs in the hard-fought road loss.

The Rams struggled to get runs across the plate in the tough loss. As a team, the Rams totaled four hits in the game. WSSU senior third base Emilio Abreu led the way for the Rams, going one-for-three at the plate with a double and a run scored. Freshman outfielder Luke Spiva was one-for-one with an RBI.

The Rams' two runs both came in the fourth inning. Spiva got things started with an RBI sacrifice fly to score senior Brandon Ford. The Rams struck again when junior Trenton Smiley hit an RBI single to score Abreu.

WSSU redshirt-freshman Jalen Scott (4-5) took the pitching loss. He started the game and went five innings. He finished the game with four runs allowed (three earned) on five hits. He also added 10 strikeouts. Junior Kyle Taylor came in for 0.2 innings while sophomore James Martin added 0.1 innings.

With the loss, the Rams fall to 27-16 on the season. The team will return to action tomorrow when they host the Saint Augustine's Falcons in a Senior Day doubleheader at BB&T Ballpark. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
