Norris Sets School Career Hits Record in 4-1 Win Over Bluefield State

Box Score

MARION, NC – Winston-Salem State junior centerfielder Randy Norris set the school record for career hits when he led the Rams to a 4-1 win over the Bluefield State College Blues (12-13), Sunday afternoon. The record-setting hit came in a key win for the Rams.

As a team, the Rams notched nine hits in the game. In addition to Norris historic one-for-three batting performance in the game, the Rams were led by senior first base Emilio Abreu, who went three-for-three batting with a home run, a run scored, and three RBI. He was the only Ram with more than one hit in the game.

Norris' historic hit came in the bottom of the third inning. It was the 201st career hit for Norris and set the school record.

The Rams got on the scoreboard early and added some quality defense to close out the game with the win. It was Abreu who got things started with a first inning RBI single to score Norris. He added a fourth-inning solo home run as well. After allowing a Bluefield State run in the fifth inning to cut the WSSU lead in half, the Rams added a pair of fourth inning runs to put the game away. Junior second base Rashad Stewart hit an RBI single to score right fielder John Garcia. The hit was followed by an Abreu single to score Stewart.

WSSU junior Josh Larson (5-1) took the pitching win. He started the game and went five innings with one run allowed (none earned) on two hits. He also added seven strikeouts. Sophomore Cole Parks came in for two innings and had no runs allowed on three hits. He also added two strikeouts.

With the win, the Rams improve to 20-14. The Rams and the Bluefield State Blues would go on to complete the doubleheader. For more information on Rams baseball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
