WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (5-0) picked up a big win, Wednesday evening when the team took a 7-1 no-hitter win over the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals (0-2). The Rams held the Cardinals to just one run on no hits and added a strong offensive performance to go along with their defensive effort.

As a team, the Rams were as impressive at the plate as they were on defense. The Rams combined for 11 hits in the game, including four doubles. WSSU senior outfielder Hunter Phillips led the way for the Rams with a three-for-four batting effort with a double and two runs scored. Senior second base Nick Williams added a two-for-three batting effort with a double and three runs scored.

The Rams got things going early before pulling away late for the seven-inning win. The team got on the scoreboard in the first inning when Phillips hit an RBI single to score Williams. The Rams added a third inning run when Williams hit an RBI double to score sophomore outfielder E.P. Reese. The Rams' 2-0 lead was cut in half when Wheeling Jesuit scored a fourth inning run. However, it was all that the Rams would allow as the team broke out for three fifth inning runs and two more sixth inning runs. At the end of the breakout, the Rams claimed the 7-1 victory.

Three WSSU pitchers combined for the no-hitter victory. WSSU sophomore Cole Parks got the start and the pitching win as he went three innings for the Rams. He allowed no runs with four strikeouts. Sophomore Jalen Scott added a pair of innings with one run allowed (none earned) on no hits. Freshman Avery Cain came in for two innings as well with five strikeouts.
