Rams Take a 7-5 Seven-Inning Loss to Bloomsburg

Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, NC- The Winston-Salem State Rams (10-4) gave a great overall effort, but the team could not pull out the win in a 7-5 loss to the Bloomsburg Huskies (5-1), Saturday afternoon. The Rams gave a solid effort with runs scored in four of the seven innings play. However, the Rams' efforts were not enough in the hard-fought loss.

As a team, the Rams played a solid game with some strong performances at the plate. The team totaled six hits in the game and turned them into five runs. WSSU senior second base Nick Williams led the way for the Rams with a two-for-three batting performance with a run scored and two RBI. Freshman third base Nick Ward added a two-for-four batting effort with a run scored.

In the early going, the Rams allowed the Huskies to come out with a strong effort, but WSSU made things interesting with an offensive showing of their own. However, in the end, the Huskie defense shut down the Rams' rally efforts. The Rams allowed a first inning run and two third inning runs, but the Rams bounced back when a Huskie wild pitch and a throwing error allowed the Rams to score a pair of runs and cut the WSSU deficit down to one run, 3-2. The Rams allowed two more fourth inning runs before Williams hit a two-RBI double that was followed by an RBI ground out by sophomore first base Luke Spiva that left the Rams trailing, 7-5 in the fifth inning. From there, the Rams were able to hold the Huskies scoreless for the remainder of the game, but WSSU could not get any runs across the plate in the tough loss.

WSSU junior Cole Parks (3-1) took the pitching loss. He started the game and threw 3.2 innings with seven runs allowed (seven earned) on eight hits. He also recorded three strikeouts. Junior Parker Strader game in for 3.1 innings no runs allowed on one hit.

The Rams will return to action, Monday when the team hosts the Huskies in a 1:00 p.m. single game. For more information on Rams baseball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
